Core Policy
What is a Core?
A core charge is a deposit added to the price of certain auto parts, like alternators or batteries. It encourages the return of the used part (“core”) once the new one is installed. It's a way to promote recycling and help reduce the cost of manufacturing new parts.
Core Physical Condition Requirements
To receive credit, cores must be returned within 90 days and meet the manufacturer’s requirements for return. Examples of issues that might cause a core to be rejected are shown below. For a complete breakdown of core criteria, contact Interstate Companies
- Fire Damage
- Water Damage
- Cracks in housing
- Disassembled
- Missing parts and/or pieces
Core Return Procedure
- Cores must be returned in original packaging.
- Include copy of original purchase with core return.
- Drain all fluids: oil, fuel, etc. out of the core before it is returned.
- Place any plastic plugs or caps received on the new item back onto the core.
- Cores returned in excess of purchases or cores returned past the due date, will not receive credit and you will be notified of the situation.
- Please return cores to the location from which they were originally purchased
